What the Worcester designs show
The clock tower downtown, drawn in rust engraving with its steep roofs, dormers and arched entrance, two bare trees on the left and a flat blue disc of moon in the corner.
It is a card about civic architecture rather than a view, which suits a city whose best buildings are municipal ones. The blue moon is the only cool colour on it and it makes the whole front feel like early evening.
When people send one
College terms, mostly. There are a lot of students here, and a card home in the first month of a first term is one of the few times a young person volunteers to write anything.
Cards also leave at the end of the summer, when the hill roads are at their best and the students have not arrived back yet. It is the quietest fortnight of the year in this city and the prettiest.
