Portland postcards, printed and mailed

Portland is a city with a mountain behind it that only shows up when the weather allows, and the card takes the optimistic version.

What the Portland designs show

Mount Hood drawn in navy with its snow left as bare cream paper, a steel lift bridge crossing the Willamette in the middle distance with its towers up, and three pink roses in the bottom left corner.

The roses are the city nickname made visible, and they are the only warm colour on an otherwise cold blue card — which is a fair summary of Portland as a place to live.

When people send one

Summer, when the mountain is actually visible and the whole city goes outside. Also the rose season in June, which is a real civic event here and not a marketing one.

Cards from here often go out in threes and fours, because a Portland trip is usually part of a longer coastal drive and everybody at home gets one from a different stop. You can put several recipients on a single order for exactly that.

Or use your own Portland photo

A bookshop, a food cart, a bridge in the rain. The rain is the honest Portland photograph and nobody ever sends it, which is exactly why it works.
