What the Tampa designs show
A cable-stayed bridge crossing the bay, drawn in red engraving with the cables fanning from two towers, palms clustered on the near bank and a flat gold sun in the top right corner.
It is a card about leaving a city in the best possible mood, which is a more accurate picture of Tampa Bay than a downtown skyline would be.
When people send one
Winter and early spring, the baseball training weeks, and the cruise season — a lot of ships leave from here, and the day before boarding is when people write cards.
Tampa is also the airport for a long stretch of Gulf coast beaches, so a fair number of the cards posted from here are really from somewhere an hour south with no post office worth finding.
