Tucson postcards, printed and mailed

Tucson is the desert city with the older story, and the design goes straight to the building that carries it.

What the Tucson designs show

The mission church south of town, drawn in rust ink with both towers, the dome and the carved facade around its entrance, a low wall running in front and three saguaros standing in the left foreground under blue halftone clouds.

The carving over that doorway is the most intricate drawing in the catalogue. It is the best argument the whole set makes for engraving over photography — a camera flattens that facade into white glare by ten in the morning.

When people send one

Winter, when this is one of the warmest places in the country, and the spring wildflower weeks in the desert either side of the city.

A lot of the cards that leave Tucson are written by people wintering here for months rather than days, which makes them closer to letters. There is more to say in February when you have been somewhere since November.

Or use your own Tucson photo

A saguaro against a sunset, a mountain road, a plate of Sonoran food. This city has better light than almost anywhere and it does most of the work for you.
