Miami postcards, printed and mailed

Miami has more designs than any other city we cover, which says something about how many people come back from it wanting to tell somebody. Pick a front, write the back, and the card goes in the mail without you finding a post office on Collins Avenue.

What the Miami designs show

Not photographs. The Miami fronts are drawn in the style of the pennants people used to bring home from a trip: MIAMI across a felt flag, with a flamingo, a palm, a conch shell and a rayed sun inked around it on cream stock.

The portrait fronts turn the same icons into a repeating pattern, flamingos and palm fronds and shells at postcard scale. It is a warmer thing to receive than a photograph of a hotel, and it prints without any of the colour trouble a phone photo of a sunset runs into.

When people send one

Spring break and the winter months, mostly — Miami is where people go when it is February somewhere else, and a postcard from a beach is a specific kind of message to send to somebody scraping a windshield.

The other common one is Art Basel week in December, when half the people sending cards are not on holiday at all.

Or use your own Miami photo

If you got the shot — the lifeguard huts, a building on Washington Avenue, the causeway at night — use it. The designs exist for the trips where the camera roll did not cooperate, and your own photo prints on the same stock.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a Miami postcard from outside the US?

Yes. You create the card wherever you are, and we print and mail it inside the United States, so the postal leg does not depend on where you are standing.
